Let me tell you what happened to me.... I made a plan, put it on the wall...then forget it. I made another plan, kept a copy in my bag, put one on the door...then something came up and delayed it...so it simply did not get done. Sound familiar? All the best intentions. I was determined. I had written out my goals. I knew my 'why?', which was supposed to keep me focused and on track even when the going gets tough, but something distracted me. I was unwell, family emergency or just life got in the way! Before I knew it that plan was redundant, curling at the edges and serving to make me feel guilty every time I passed it. How could I stop this frustrating, disappointing and demoralising habit? How could I turn my plan into a reality? How could I finally achieve my dreams? The business gurus says 'Put your Plan into Action.' Yeah, I know ..l tried and now all I feel is a monster called Failure eating away at me. So what's the alternative? First I needed to answer a question or two: What didn't I like about my plan? Why didn't I really follow my plan? My plan was to phone 10 potential customers a day from my leads. These were people I had met maybe just once, had a brief conversation with and they had agreed that I could call them to possibly arrange an appointment with me. I would flick through the forms trying to pick the most likely to say yes to me then ....do it later! But rarely did 'later' come and so I failed to follow my plan. So what didn't I like about my 10 a day plan? Was I scared of rejection on the phone? Yes, but I believed I could overcome that..after all I hardly knew them. Ah...I remember I was too tired and as a result felt as if my voice would come across as 'down' or I'd make mistakes on the phone. Sometimes I was just so busy with my work or family that I could not fit it in without becoming or being exhausted. 10 calls a day..maybe an hour maximum. I would berate myself the next day, then feel worse and still delay. Go figure!! Still reading? Does this still sound familiar? With clarity reigning I thought okay I WILL call those 10 people, thus doing that 'one thing' that will takes my business forward, first thing every day before I do anything else. Great plan...problem was it was the wrong time to catch anyone in! Best time was between 4 - 8 pm. I did not WANT to do it then. I was at my lowest in energy, and therefore lowest confidence, at that time of day. Stalemate. What would you do if you were me? Find a way to temporarily buffer myself out of tiredness, low energy, fatigue so I could pick up that phone for half an hour? Okay I have an idea. At 3.00 pm go and have a meditation so I am rested. About 3.50 pm put on some upbeat music...to act as a trigger, a switch to raise my energy and help me 'visualise' myself full of energy and confidence ...then before I pick up the phone say out loud and in front of the mirror an 'affirmation' three times (related to my successful, positive outcome on the phone.)..then PICK up that phone! I hereby commit to you the reader to do this. I will let you know my results! If you wish to share your plan and how you intend to make it happen please do. We can support each other on the road to success.

Being BRILLIANT is something we all secretly strive for, but we disguise this sentiment by saying, "I wish I was a better teacher, chef, entrepreneur, father, friend, ...." Are you ready to listen? Let me tell you one of mine. One day I was picked to read out in school assembly in my first year of secondary school. The day came. I was anxious and nervous. I mumbled my way through with shaking hands, red faced and tongue tied my way to silence. No one could hear me, it was a disaster. The teacher hastily intervened with a, "Thank you Mandy, you can sit down." I wanted to hide, I was so embarrassed. I hated it, I hated myself for being so shy and I felt so stupid. Some time after that horrible experience, out of fear of ever being in that situation again, I decided to read up on public speaking. I practiced the techniques, recorded myself reading out loud (which sounded awful), listened to how others pronounced their words ...till one day I 'volunteered' to read out at the next assembly. Bless him the teacher tried to persuade me otherwise, but I stood up , smiled and read clearly, loudly and with growing confidence. Wow, did I feel good. The look on the teacher's face and the nodding admiration of my peers - I can still ‘see and feel’ it now.. It was a brilliant moment I shall never forget! You already are brilliant. You have throughout your life had brilliant moments. Each one of us has shone at some point/s...take a moment now to think back. When did you feel good about something you have done, said, achieved? No matter how small - as each brilliant moment counts. Remember how you felt, how it raised your confidence, the beaming smile on your face, the inner feeling of peacefulness or the desire to run around the room shouting and celebrating? Relive those moments, write them down. Knowing you are capable of brilliance, having been 'brilliant' before , do not now waste that emotion and knowledge. If you have done it once (which you will have!) you can do and be it again! The secret is tapping into that moment and using it to springboard you onto more experiences of feeling brilliant. So when you want to be 'brilliant' in whatever way, reconnect, know you are capable, smile and step forward into the spotlight!
